Someone is threatening to share photos of me
You are not the first and you did nothing unusual. There is a script for this, and you can get off it.
This happens most often to young men, and almost nobody talks about it, which is exactly what makes it work.
Read this first
Do not pay. People who pay are asked again, and then again. Paying marks you as someone who will pay.
They almost certainly will not do it. The threat is the product. Sending the photos ends their leverage and gains them nothing. This is a script run at thousands of people at once by people who have never met you.
It is not your fault. You were targeted by someone doing this professionally. That is all that happened.
What to do
- Stop replying. Every reply tells them you are still frightened, which is what they are selling.
- Do not delete the messages. Screenshot everything — the account, the messages, any payment details they gave you. You may want them later.
- Block the account, then lock down yours: make your friends list and your followers private. Most of the threat is *"I will send these to your family"*, and that requires being able to see who your family is.
- Tell one person. A friend, a sibling, anyone. The power of this is entirely in your silence. It shrinks the moment somebody else knows.
If images are already out
Report them to the platform — every large platform removes this quickly, and you do not have to explain yourself to do it. If you were under eighteen when the images were taken, say so; that changes how urgently it is handled everywhere.
The feeling that your life is over is part of how this works. It passes. People come through this every day and their lives continue exactly as before.
